When police hunting the Yorkshire Ripper received a recording from a man claiming to be the killer, they thought it would only be a question of time before he was arrested. They chose to exclude the possibility that the man on the tape might not be the killer - with fatal consequences for several women.

Goodness, a first hand account of the hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper.. and a really interesting insight into the mindset of those investigating it. Thank heavens that they struck lucky in the end. If it wasn't for that chance encounter, Peter Sutcliffe may well be still cloaked by the same mythology and anonymity as "Jack". What a great story!
