  • Interviewee name: Maureen Rhodes

  • Date of event: 31 May 1953

  • Maureen Rhodes was born and bred in Bradford. In the 1950's her parents brought her to Morecambe twice a year as a child. With typical northern humour, Maureen recalls those glorious bucket and spade days spent on Morecambe sands. Apologies - original version had some sound interference.

Love this - Maureen is a great storyteller, and it's just so great to see those old photos. Wearing a suit and tie on the beach. Climbing up on the back of an elephant. Ghastly woollen swimsuits which used to stretch in the water! How can you believe that these are memories of stuff which happened in the same lifetime? It seems like 200 years ago, but it was all just yesterday. Thanks so much to the interviewers and to Maureen. Keep them coming!
