Nothing made of plastic, no television, and one egg a month - life for a small child when Katherine first came to Britain from Germany after the war. A great source of pride for Katherine is that she was able to walk with her grandchildren in the same place as she walked with her children - that she wasn't hounded from one country to the next, as were her parents. It's a wonderful reminder of something that most of us take for granted.
