  • Jayaben Desei worked at Grunwick film processing factory in Willesden, which was the stimulus for the great strike. The unions were keen to be seen supporting black workers and so, for the first time, the trade union leaders gave full support to black strikers. Up to 8,000 workers from across the country joined the picket.

Shame on you!!! As you well know, your son was sacked after lunch and that was why you refused to work the extra hour! Also, the reason he was sacked was that he had been to the pub and when he got back he had an argument with the manager! There are also many half-truths to what you are saying! For example, it was standard practice for management to expect you to do overtime when things were busy, but you were also compensated at other times of the year by being sent home early on full pay! I will agreed that pay was quite low, but we knew that when we accepted the job. Also, for most of the year it was pretty easy money! It was also pretty stupid of the manager get into an argument with you, but it was also pretty stupid of you to pick an argument with him, when you knew he was still angry about your son!
