Hi Ali - I agree. I don't think anyone is happy with what has happened. Maybe Iraq will eventually emerge as a better place where people can live in freedom, but the price paid by the Iraqi people will have been huge. Only history will tell whether it has been worthwhile, but that is little consolation to the tens of thousands of people who have lost their loved ones. SP

thank you stuart prebble i do not like saddam husein myself but the people that were being killed some of them wernt bad people

Hi Ali - I understand what you're saying - so much of what is said about the war portrays Iraq as a bad place. However if it's worth anything to you, I know that James Shaw doesn't think that. He has enormous respect for the people he met there. People can have different views about the wisdom of the war, but I do think that people like James genuinely believed they were freeing the people from a despotic ruler.

Hi Ali - thanks for your comment. I'm not sure why you say that James Shaw shouldn't talk about the war "like he was in it". He very definitely was.... and I hope his insight will be of value to anyone who wants to study the war in the future.
