What an extraordinary memory Jim has.. he paints the most vivid picture of life as a youngster during the second world war. I suppose a 10 year old's experience of watching searchlights scraping the night sky over Edinburgh from my bedroom window whilst German bombers tried to knock out the Forth bridge is the sort of memory that would stay fresh for me during 63 years too. His perpsective on the situation of the German people at the conclusion of the war is also remarkable and quite humbling. Keep them coming Katherine!

Once again, this is utterly fascinating, and it'll be a wonderful memoir for Jim's descendants to look back in in decades to come. Again though, it would be great if Katherine could add some tag-words - such as "rationing" and "Vietnam" and "bombing" so that students doing research into this subjects can find Jim's valuable insights.
