  • Ralph Volcere is the Democratic Party in opposition Leader of the Seychelles and Editor of 'Le Nouveau Seychelles Weekly'. In 1982 Ralph was exiled from the Seychelles to the UK where he stayed for nearly 10 years. While in exile he worked with an organisation fighting for political change in the Seychelles. Here he talks about their work in exile and how John Major, former British Prime Minister, helped them work towards the introduction of multi-party rule in the Seychelles.

Outstanding to be able to learn about this little-known episode in history from one of the front-line players in it. When Tony Blair beat John Major in the election, he told Major that history would be kinder to him. You don't hear much good said about John Major these days, so it's refreshing to hear someone saying that "he was as good as his word" in helping to deliver success for these good people.
