David Wood joined the Royal Navy in 1965 as an Artificer Apprentice and ended his career in 1998 as a Warrant Officer 1, First Class. In 1982 onboard HMS Coventry he was sailing back from Gibraltar when the ship got turned round and sent down to the Falkland Islands. He wasn't worried- most onboard thought that by the time they got there the 'crisis' would be over...but when they got there they were shaken by the bombing of HMS Sheffield...
