In the second part of her interview Joyce recounts her experiences in post 13 education during the late 40s early 50s, where children who did not pass their 11+ were given the opportunity to do a trade scholarship. She speaks about how she learnt her trade as a milliner by initially undertaking one of these scholarships. She went on to work from home and look after her young children at the same time to help bring money into the house during hard times.
