My memories of working at London Lighthouse - 1990-2001 - Part 2 of 2

London Lighthouse, located in Ladbroke Grove, West London, opened in 1988 was the UK’s first major centre for people with HIV/Aids. It offered respite and terminal care on its ‘Residential Unit’. ‘Day care’ services for people with Aids-related dementia, and ‘Drop-in’ services (Advice, information, counselling). All three areas offered a broad range of Complementary Therapies. I was one of the team of Complementary Therapists and I offered Hypnotherapy and Relaxation Therapy. In August 1998, the Residential Unit closed due to the changing ‘climate’ (new combination drug therapies and reduced funding from the Government and Health Authorities) and the reduced need for its services. Today, the building in Ladbroke Grove is called ‘THT-Lighthouse’, having merged with the Terrence Higgins Trust, another HIV/ Aids organisation. It now offers a reduced Drop-in service. There are many stories to be told about this amazing place and the incredibly skilled people who worked there. This is my story….
