Pupils from the King Alfred School in London were asked to find out what they could about their own family background. They came back with some fascinating stories of their families, and how many of them had arrived in Britain from all parts of the globe. Hani's family came from Iraq, where his grandfather still owns a factory making pasta. The story was told to the school's head-teacher Dawn Moore.

LIFE AS A STUDENT IN SPAIN UNDER FRANCO,
Encarna was a Medical Student in Madrid when Franco was the dictator. So concerned was the state about the possibility of an uprising by communists supported by students, that her lectures were attended by armed soldiers. There were regular beatings of dissenters, and anyone accused of opposing the government would be excluded from university. She tells her story as part of the Heritage Day at King Alfred School in London.
