FALKLANDS MEDAL ACHIEVES NEW RECORD AT AUCTION

The family of Staff Sergeant Jim Prescott raised a new record of £118,000 when they auctioned the Conspicuous Gallantry Medal which was awarded to him for his service in the Falklands.  Jim lost his life when trying to defuse a torpedo on board HMS Antelope - the full story of which is movingly told on StoryVault by his comrade John Phillips.  John tells how he lost his arm, and Jim Prescott was killed instantly, when the bomb they were trying to defuse suddenly exploded.  The CGM awarded posthumously to Jim Prescott is unique in that it it the only one of its kind to have been awarded during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
