i remember those banked coal  fires never let it go out was the last thing I remember when w want to bed at night.  No central heating no double pane windows....watching your breath leave your mouth when you were in bed and cuddling the rubber hot water bottle.I was lucky in 1950's to gag an inside toilet, how I hated to find myself to gave to go when I visited my aunts and uncles and grandma.   Th old latched door to the privy and the smell when the truck came round to empty them.

Warming a penny and placing it on to the windowsinsidè your house which had thick ice encrusted on it. How did we survive?
